Notes

◦ The Priest's Chart is sadly an incomplete story. The history of the characters is very important to the world at large and yet, it was never told in full. It's obvious that the author intended to tell more of their past story in future volumes, but the series was canceled. For that reason, I'll have to fill in the blanks myself using a combination of hints and imagination.

◦ Different translations translate names in different ways. His full name gets different spellings, for example. If you're one of the rare few who begins to read the stories and notice a difference, this is why.

◦ Sherry is a side character with Cliff and Edward being the main protagonists. I'll hint at their story, but this writeup will largely focus on events that happen to Sherry.

Before our story begins...

◦ Once upon a time, the Holy City was formed by the 7 saints. Though it's only a city-state, the Order helped it gain a lot of power.

◦ We first meet Sherry when Sa-il's father comes to him for help. Sa-il, a child for now, has developed his father's draconic right eye and now sees not only mana but something else as well. Since Shery specializes in complex magic equations, he seems the most suited to find a way to help Sa-il manage his ability to see this mysterious form of energy. Sa-il, however, is more concerned with Sherry's beauty and is immediately taken with him.

◦ Overtime, Sherry tries different combinations and manages to create an eyepatch for Sa-il. The two grow close, and Sherry becomes a person the elf can trust in. While others mocked him, the dragon treated him kindly. To Sherry, Sa-il became like an younger brother. Unfortunately, Sa-il developed a different kind of love. This cultivates into a fight as Sa-il grows not only in age by in arrogance as well.

◦ When Sa-il is 85, he runs to Sherry after yet another fight. As he brags about his skills, Sherry mentions that he liked the child he used to be better than the arrogant, violent man he's become. Sa-il asks Sherry to see him as a man now that he was older, something the dragon rejects because he doesn't do that kind of thing with family. Sa-il dismisses his feelings and said he never saw him as family and was only waiting for the day they could be together. However, he does say they can be a different kind of family; they could get married and since dragons are intersex in their natural forms and can change their sex at will as a human, Sherry could have their baby.

◦ The fight intensified; Sa-il thinks Sherry was playing house, ignoring his real feelings but Sherry is hurt that his feelings of finally finding a family are being dismissed as 'playing'. When Sa-il slams his hand down onto a table, it breaks and sends shards flying toward Sherry, who gets cut. The dragon sends him away so they can both cool their heads. At home, Sa-il learns that hatchlings are guarded as precious but not treated as a human family treats their children, and that Sherry has always longed for a family. Realizing how precious Sherry's feelings had been toward him, he immediately regrets his actions.

◦ Three days after, Sa-il is still sulking and trying to find the right way to apologize. However, his father has already reached out to Sherry and asked him to meet with Sa-il. When he does, the elf apologizes and promises to be better. When he asks Sherry if he can propose again once he becomes an adult worthy of him, Sherry warns him the answer may always be the same, but that he could do what he wanted.

◦ Some time after this, Cliff finds Sherry in the market and is told by his holy sword that Sherry is a dragon. After catching his curiosity, the dragon agrees to join him a traveling companion to defeat the demon king. Little is known about these adventures except that Cliff has three other companions: a mercenary, a healer, and his holy sword Eshilude that only he can hear. His other companions have all died, some under mysterious circumstances. We also find out that cliff gave up his memories in order to get the power of the holy sword and no longer feels pain and heals instantly.

◦ At some point, Cliff defeats the demon king goes back to the Order. There, he's experimented on. After escaping, he manages to use a teleportation circle to make it to Sherry, chains still around his wrist and ankles. Though Sherry is ready to attack the order and get vengeance, Cliff begs him down and instead, the dragon gives him shelter in a city near his lake. Cliff has time to heal, but when they go out, he finds himself terrified of people because of the violence he endured at the order. Sherry slowly starts introducing him to people, starting with individuals and building up to small crowds. Over time, Cliff remembers there's more to people than violence and regains the ability to be among crowds. During this time, Cliff convinces Sherry to swear an oath to not intervene between himself and the Order.

◦ At some point, Sherry takes Cliff to the house that Sa-il owns in order to keep him safe and hidden. Cliff begins to experience symptoms that they believe to be a curse, but Sherry can find nothing wrong with his mana.

Father James begins to treat Cliff. Sherry is very overprotective of the human thanks to all that he suffered previously. However, he allows the treatment because it does seem to help a little.

Our Story

◦ Father James decides to retire and thus brings in Father Edward, a new priest assigned to the village from the Order after a shameful incident. The two meet and eventually, Ed begins to help Cliff with the symptoms. Sherry finds Edward leaving Cliff's room and attacks him, verbally, as he's still very protective, and they hadn't met. Even though Ed explains his position, Sherry doesn't like him and continues to be rude when addressing him.

◦ Ed and Cliff grow closer. As he learns more about Cliff, who's known as the hero for defeating the demon king, the sadder his story becomes. Edward's sympathy toward him allows Cliff to open up a bit more.

◦ We next see Sherry when he's looking through Cliff's books, some of which are false accounts of what happened during his time as a hero. Many romanticize the journey, but there are no books that know the whole truth. Though this is played as a joke, Sherry's later seen reading these to pass the time.

◦ Cliff continues to have crippling pain and nightmares, and Ed continues to help him. After one encounter, he runs into Sherry and worries about the dragon's reaction. Instead of attacking him, Sherry tells him to hurry inside as Cliff needs him, revealing that he's known about the curse all along. He even apologizes to Ed after, explaining that he was frustrated at being unable to help Cliff himself. However, in truth, Sherry also holds a grudge against the Order as a whole because of Cliff's torture.

◦ In the following chapters, we're introduced to two new characters: Connie, the Cait Sith that takes care of Cliff's house, and Ivanov, Ed's older brother who is pulling a lot of strings behind the scenes. Unfortunately, the story ends before we can hear the entirety of the plan.

◦ Cliff and Ed bond some more. They eventually get soaked in the rain and go inside to take a bath. While Cliff uses the tube, Edward dries off using a towel, and we reconnect with Sa-il who jokes about the two of them sharing a bathroom. Overhearing the conversation, Sherry assumes the work and is about to berate Edward before Sa-il intervenes. He's still romantically interested in Sherry and still trying to get him to return his affections. Sherry slaps him, cutting his cheek in the process.

◦ Outside, Edward and Sa-il talk. The elf explains a bit more of their history and how he met Sherry. Edward has to return, but Sherry meets Sa-il outside. He doesn't understand Sa-il's instant trust of Edward, but what he doesn't admit is that Edward has the same golden energy that also surrounds Cliff. Shery gives him another slap, this one more playful, but actually uses the motion to heal the cut he'd made earlier.

◦ More bonding, and Cliff realizes that he has feelings for Edward. Sherry also notices and encourages him to be honest. However, the former hero hesitates, worrying that it would be a selfish confession. Then, according to Sherry, he should just be selfish. Edward gets the same advice. Though it takes a few more chapter, he finally confesses and Cliff accepts. The two begin to date, but Ed worries Sherry is their first huddle as he doesn't know about the dragon's advice. When he confesses about his relationship with Cliff, Sherry reveals that he already knew and didn't mind. While he still thinks Cliff is too good for him, his dislike of Ed came from seeing him leaving Cliff's room when they'd first met. Ed also still doesn't know about Sherry's dislike of the order.

◦Their first official date consisting of watching the fireworks at a local festival. Edward's brother comes and does some shady business, but onto the dragon... Sherry accepts Sa-il's invite. They do spend some time talking about Cliff, but Sherry elects to walk with Sa-il instead of simply teleporting back. When the two make it back to the house, they decide to leave it for Cliff and Ed and instead, go to Sa-il's house to drink with Connie joining them.

◦We see a few plot points with a mysterious figure at the Capital that we'll later find out is the physical form of the holy sword that Cliff had connected to before coming a hero and the reason Cliff seems cursed. Edward also figures out that the problem with Cliff isn't related to his mana. His brother and niece return to the Holy City. Edward decides to also visit and tells Cliff of his upcoming trip. Though he doesn't notice the hero's expression for a moment, Sherry and Sa-il note that there was a second of something unpleasant that crosses Cliff's face. Sherry points out the previous torture and the likelihood as it being the source of Cliff's unease. Cliff himself writes it off as something as simple as missing Edward.

◦Edward travels to the holy city and we see a bit more of his past. He also gets a book that he won't realize is important until later. Back at the house, Sherry and Connie note an improvement in Cliff's leg which that attribute to Edward without knowing Ivanov had really visited Cliff on the day of the fireworks and is really responsible. Cliff and James meet, revealing that James knows more about Cliff's condition than Edward.

◦When Edward returns, he's so busy catching up on work that he hasn't met with Cliff in some time. Sad, Cliff decides to go visit him instead at Connie's urging but as he heads out the door, Ed charges in, looking for Sa-il. The two get into some hijinks that gets resolved. However, Connie eventually notes that they don't really do romantic outings. In order to give them a date, Sherry disguises himself as a human and snatches Edward away. After giving him new clothes and retrieving Cliff, they're teleported to the city near Sherry's lake. During dinner, Cliff finally admits that the order has been less than kind to him after his hero days. The date goes well otherwise.

◦After some more plot points regarding Eshilude (who seeks another vessel without success; we also learn that someone in the Capital has a piece of Cliff, whatever that means), Ed renews his study to find a cure for Cliff. However, they all hit dead ends. Deciding to take a break and read the cookbook his brother urged him to take, he finds that the book actually hides research that Father James had originally founded. Apparently, he knew of the mysterious gold energy that existed alongside mana and was exiled when he showed his research to the Order. Unfortunately, after questioning him, Edward finds he knew little else that wasn't in the study. However, it is noted that the idea originally came from Alethea, a previous saint and Ed's ancestor. James does point Ed in the direction of Ivanov who seemed to be pulling a lot of strings.

◦Edward goes to tell Cliff he's returning to the Holy City. As the two flirt, Ed begin to bleed from his mouth and nose before collapsing. Sa-il arrives and finds him nearly dead before carrying him to visit his father, the Elder Dragon. Sherry arrives to watch over Cliff. At the dragon camp, we learn that Ed has been unintentionally giving Cliff his golden energy and has nearly died as a result. We also learn that Cliff isn't cursed but that the symptoms are remnants of the spirit that lived within him, that used him as a sheath. All of this is something Cliff knew but didn't admit. He still feels a lot of guilt for not remaining at the Order as the sheath until the next sheath appeared failing to do so assures no one could receive the holy sword when the demon king reappeared.

◦Cliff decides to return to the Order. The conversation with Ed's brother is revealed: he told Cliff that Edward was slowly dying as he gave his energy to heal him. He also offered him an option that would save Ed, but it's never revealed what that choice was. However, he thinks that if he returns, Ed will no longer be in danger. Sherry tries to stop him, but Cliff invokes the oath. As a dragon cannot break an oath, he's powerful to stop Cliff as he heads toward the Holy City.

◦Unfortunately, the series was discontinued after this point.
